Gabriel Garcia Marquez Cultural Center

Standing in the building's center and hear your voice echo. Along the wall are photos of Mexican authors.

The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Cultural Center was built in 2008 in honor of Colombia’s most famous novelist, who won the Nobel Prize in 1985 for novels such as One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera.

The Mexican flag hangs by the center.

The Cultural Center was built in Marquez’s honor by the Mexican government, because Marquez has lived in Mexico City for many years, and designed by Rogelio Salmona, Colombia’s best-known architect. Salmona’s buildings, which include the Torres del Parque behind the Bullfighting Stadium, often incorporate many curves.

The cultural includes a bookstore with 90,000 volumes,a restaurant, bank, travel agency and conference centers and stages many cultural events. Strangely, however, it has no exhibition about Mr. Marquez or his work.

The center is located on the north side of 11th Street, just above 6th Ave.
