Nick, who rode with us a few days ago, sends this generous testimonial:
BICYCLE RENTAL IN BOGOTA If you´re interested in seeing Bogota by bicycle, I recommend Bogota Bike Tours. The owner Mike, an American, and the tour guide Juan, a Bogotano, can offer anything from a one-hour cruise on mainly cycleways for inexperienced cyclists, to a full-day tour for fitter people. The bikes are well-maintained, with slick gears and brakes, and helmets are provided. I opted for a five-hour tour. There were three of us – Andy, an Australian, Juan and I. All three of us are experienced cyclists, so we set a crisp pace. I didn´t find the traffic in Bogota any worse than handling streets in Lordon or Paris. Juan took us to the obvious big sights in Bogota, but also through streets, barrios and markets that we would never have found by ourselves. We stopped at a vegetarian restaurant for lunch, although Juan has plenty of other options available. Including the lunch stop, we were out on the bikes for 7 hours 30 minutes! But Mike charged only the same as for the five-hour tour – they´re friendly people, at Bogota Bike Tours. There´s a great French-run bar-cafe in the same premises.
These very nice Australian folks also gave us a very nice write-up at:
-

- With this Australian family we visited the Mercado de Egipto, above La Candelaria. They marveled at the great variety of fruits.

- We rode with an Australian family this weekend. And my dog Parchita made a real hit with their kids

- A big group of our bikes took up a whole wall at the Hacienda Santa Barbara

- August is kite-flying month, and we rode past these kites for sale
I spotted this pair today on the Ciclovia:

- He (the man) said the dog has never fallen off!

- Pedaling along a grass-bordered bike trail in northern Bogotá
Yes, Bogotá has great things, including the Ciclovía and the bike paths – as imperfect as they are.

- The Ciclovia attracts thousands of people for healthy Sunday activity!

- A pause on the Ciclovia!
But how about really enforcing emissions controls? What about finally reducing the sulphur in diesel fuel to a reasonable level? How about instituting traffic calming measures? And, finally, Bogotá society needs to accept the automobile as a form of transport equal – or even preferable – to the car.

- You can’t get here in a car! cyclists in front of the lake in Bogota’s Simon Bolivar Park

- You can’t drive here, either – Cyclists among the mausoleums in a Bogota Cemetery
