Plaza del Chorro
Bogotá was founded in 1538 at the Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo. ‘Chorro’ means fountain, although water no longer flows here. But lots of beer does, and the plaza is the neighborhood’s nightlife center for the university student population. It’s often got a sort of bohemian atmosphere, with handicrafts, musicians, jugglers and storytellers (and a few ganja sellers).

The callejon del embudo, or Funnel Alley, leads to the Plaza del Chorro and is lined with bars.

Lots of chicha, a fermented drink often made of rice or sugar cane, flows around the Plaza del Chorro
